Congratulations to our Year 5/6 team who won the Manchester United Foundation cup.
We had previously progressed through the heats where we won every single game.
On Friday 2nd March we were in a group of 5 schools that had each won their heats. It was a fantastic day that saw us top our group, winning 3 games and losing 1.
In the semi-final we met Urmston (runners-up in the other group) and we played some sumptuous football eventually winning 8-1. In the final we met Brooklands, who were the only school to beat us in our group. In a tightly contested game our skills, hard work and ‘never say die’ attitude saw us win the game 3-1. Goals from Louie T, Sonnie H and Sam E.
A total of 96 schools entered the competition. I’m sure you’ll agree that this is a fantastic achievement.
The team will now represent Manchester United at The Emirates Stadium. Each of the 20 Premier League Clubs will be represented by a school from their area to see who will be crowned champions. This prestigious event will take part in May. Keep looking at the website and our twitter account for more details on the tournament and how the boys get on.
The boys were presented the trophy by ‘Fred the Red’.
The victorious team with the management team of Mr Metcalfe and Mr Hargreaves (The new Mercer and Allison?).
Additionally, the school team will be pulling on their boots again shortly for the next set of fixtures in the JP League (29th March). We are currently sitting 4th but we have games in hand.
