Welcome to 5M

The Techno- Angels

This term the children will be learning about Ancient Greece and the Olympics. They will learn about where Greece is, what it was like to live in Ancient Greece and about the Greek islands and cities.

They will also learn about the Ancient Olympics, how it started and the similarities and differences between the modern Olympics and the events that the Ancient Greeks took part in.

Throughout this term the children learn to listen to what other people are saying and then use what they have heard to be able to respond appropriately.  This debate will teach them about injustice and current politics around the world and how conflict on a large scale is handled around the world both positively and negatively. This handling of conflict will then be covered in PSHE sessions as a way to help resolve the ongoing conflicts that keep arising within the key stage.

Another target for 5M for this term will be to work as a team.  The children will be taught how to work well as part of a team, developing roles and negotiating with one another. This again will focus on listening skills and responding in a way that the team works successfully together. One challenge will be to create a scale model from junk of an Olympian village.  We have all noticed that they teamwork skills are quite poor and their individual confidence to resolve problems independently. We will encourage children to “ask 3 before me” and share ways of solving problems with the children that will carried across every area of the curriculum.

Our PSHE listens will also link to our Science work, which will be all about Keeping Healthy. They children will learn about a balanced diet, what each food group provides us, the role our heart plays and how our muscles work. We will ofcourse link this to the diet and fitness of Olympic athletes.
