3T have started the new term wonderfully and made me feel really welcome!

It’s all Greek to me

AncientGreeceis the topic for this term. We will be examining the lives of the Ancient Greeks, how it compares with modern dayGreeceand what family life was like. The children will discover when important events occurred and how the Greeks started the Olympics.

 In conjunction with the topic we are learning all about Greek myths. Who the great heroes were and the monsters they fought. We have already read about how Apollo beat the monster Chimaera. The class are looking forward to writing about their own hero and describing the adventures they have battling evil monsters.

 The children have found it really exciting to use their existing Maths knowledge to solve a number of everyday problems.

We have started to investigate what the properties of materials are. The class can now say which materials are strong, which are hard, which are soft or bendy.  We be looking at how these materials can help us in everyday life. There are a number of budding civil engineers in the class.

I am really glad to be back and I have been enjoying getting to know the class.

3T are going to be working very hard this term and they are ready to learn lots of things!

They have already written some super adventure stories and they are currently busy typing them up so we can turn them in to books.  We will be starting a new Literacy unit tomorrow all about instructions.  The children will love writing instructions about how to make krispie cakes and then following instructions to make and eat them!!  They will also be writing instructions for a treasure hunt!

The class have been doing really well with their maths work.  They can now multiply 3 digit numbers by a 1 digit number using partitioning…they have been very excited about being able to do this so I am sure they will give you a demonstration!  We have also been halving, doubling and rounding.

Our new topic is all about our local area.  We have been looking at maps of Cadishead…and finding everyone’s house!  The children have also looked at local landmarks and their houses on google earth..we even spotted Nacer coming out of his house!  They have planned a route from school to Cadishead Moss and we will be following this tomorrow to see what we can discover along the way.  We hear from year 4 that there are horses, pigs and lots of other things to see.  They even got us an invite to visit Rosebank Stud farm to see some newly born foals!

Next half term we will be comparing our area to a totally different locality – a tiny village in South West Scotland which is virtually in the middle of the sea (my Dad lives there!)

In R.E we are reading parables from different cultures, you can hear more about this in our KS2 assembly this Friday (27th Jan).  We look forward to seeing you there!

We are very busy in Science learning about different rocks – the children can now tell you the three types of rock and how they are all formed.  We have investigated how hard different rocks are and how they are used around school.  We are starting to learn more about volcanoes!

The children are loving their swimming lessons on a Friday and are gaining confidence in the pool.  Indoor P.E is focused on using the apparatus correctly which is always a lot of fun!

Don’t forget;
