Welcome to the 1/2D Dinos class page.

We are a terrifying class of twenty six ferocious dinosaurs. The fiercest dinosaurs of all are our teacher Miss Denniss and our Teaching Assistant Mrs Illsley, not to mention ‘Flip-Flop’ our gigantic inflatable T-rex!

Here are a couple of links to our favourite dinosaur songs…

This Half Term our Topic is…

Under The Sea

We had a fantastic time at The Blue Planet Aquarium to start our new topic, we learnt so much and have produced some amazing writing and artwork from the visit…

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out on our trip to Blue Planet we really appreciate it.

Our literacy work this half term will be cross-curricular and will be centred around two fishy tales: ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ by Giles Andrae and ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson.

We will be studying the author ‘Julia Donaldson’ in school and on our weekly trips to the library.

We will also be thinking about sustainability and the local environment linked to the story of ‘The Snail and The Whale’.

In maths we continue to work hard on all the basic skills we will need to grow enormous mathematician’s brains when we are a little bit older.

We use numberlines and 100 squares to solve problems involving counting on and back in 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s and multiples of 10 and to identify numbers which are larger, smaller and in-between.

One of the things we should know by the end of this Year are our number bonds; 0-10 in Year 1 and 0-20 in Year 2. We should be able to work out these number problems in any order and use these facts to work out subtraction facts e.g. 1+9=10  9+1=10  10-9=1

We are getting really good at partitioning numbers, some of the children can even split 4 digit numbers into thousands, hundreds, tens and units, WOW! We are now working on using this strategy to add and subtract two and three digit numbers.

We have been working hard on the themes of estimation, time and money and will continue to apply our new understanding across all areas of the curriculum.

Year Two are now beginning to learn new symbols in maths including multiplication and division and the whole class will soon be driving everyone mad with our times tables songs.

Here are some useful websites for the children to try out their maths skills…
