Wow, I can’t believe it’s already the summer term! Can you!? This is a really important half term as during week 5 we have SATS – the real thing this time! Leading up to SATS we will be focusing on revising maths and literacy skills we have already learnt this year. I am confident that all of you will do really well so please don’t worry about any of it, and if you have any questions- you know who to come to! Please see below for more information on SATS week.
Alongside our maths and literacy work we will be starting a new topic on Ancient Greece. Obviously the up and coming Olympics will be heavily linked into this topic and we will look into the history of how the Olympics started. We will also learn about every day life in Ancient Greece and how that has effected our lives today. We have started to research Ancienct Greece already in ICT lessons and the children have some very interesting facts!
Our new Science topic is Keeping Healthy. The children will learn about a balanced diet, what each food group provides us with, the role our heart plays and how our muscles work. We will of course link this to the diet and fitness of Olympic athletes.
The SATs will take place in the week of Monday 14th May – Friday 18th May. The SATs tests are national statutory tests and are taken in English and Mathematics. This year sees a change to the way that the English tests are administered. The Writing level is now purely down to a judgement from your child’s Learning Group teacher rather than from a one off test, which we are delighted about. This should give a much more rounded assessment of your child’s Writing instead of relying on several factors to come together on one day in May! However, Reading and maths assessments will still be conducted in the same fashion as in previous years during SATs week.
Spring 2
Our new and exciting topic is……………….Location, Location, Location! We have brushed up our Atlas skills and have learnt about continents and countries across the world. We are now focusing in on Asia and more specifically Nepal. We have links with a school in Nepal and we hope to involve the children in these links, by encouraging letter writing, research projects and contact over the internet. During this weeks Literacy lessons the children have been writing amazing descriptions about an imaginary visit to Nepal- watch out for some examples of these on this page soon! Please help us out by sending in any travel brochures ideally covering Asia- and if any of you have visited Nepal we would be very keen to hear your stories- Thank you!

Science lessons have been keeping us very busy!- We are learning about the three states of matter – solid, liquid and gas. We have found out how the molecules move in each matter and we are currently finding out about evaporation, reversible and irrevsible changes and what the best conditions are for drying clothes, so you can ask your children to help with this at home!
New dates for your diary:
- 10th February YoungEnterpriseDay
- 16th February Valentines Disco 3-4.30pm
- 17th February Break up for half term
Autumn 1
Last half term we learnt all about Britain since 1948. We researched the technological and transport changes and also looked into the future and predicted technological changes- you should see some of our future aeroplane designs! We also looked into the history of cars, and were most interested in how much the mini has changed since 1959- can you believe the difference?!

In Science lessons we learnt about the sun, the moon and the earth and we especially enjoyed finding out about the first man on the moon and the Apollo rocket launch. We made our own rockets using a variety of resources and will be testing them this week so look out for pictures and results of whose rocket flew the highest!
Well drum roll please……………………..I can now reveal that the furthest flying rocket was a draw between Riya and Katie’s team and team Keiron, Alex and Lewis!
